Vijay For Victory

July 30th, 2007 Vijay No comments

I am changing my blog’s URL to www.vijayforvictory.blogspot.com. When I started blogging, I was searching for the Vijay For Victory. But it was taken by someone at that time. So I was forced to take www.bkvijayaraghavan.blogpost.com.

But I always tried to get the VijayForVictory. Fortunately I got this URL today.

So I froze www.bkvijayaraghavan.blogspot.com and continue posting in the new one. The URL redirecting scripts will take care of bringing you to www.vijayforvictory.blogpost.com from the old URL.

SMARTBOARDs are the next generation blackboards which are used widely in educational institutions. Imagine if the smartboard understands what we draw on it. MIT’s AI lab took it further and they had come up with such a board which recognizes what you draw on the board. It is named as “Assist Sketch Understanding System”.

Two more demos are here Video1, Video2

No matter where you are

Once there was an old man lived alone. He wanted to spade his potato garden. But it was very hard work.
His only son, who would have helped him, was in prison.

The old man wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his situation:

Dear Son,

I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my potato garden this year. I hate to miss doing the garden, because your mother always loved planting time. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me, if you weren’t in prison.

Love,
Dad

Shortly, the old man received this telegram:

“For Heaven’s sake, Dad, don’t dig up the garden!! That’s where I buried the GUNS!!”

At 4 a.m. the next morning, a dozen CBI officers and local police officers showed up and dug up the entire garden without finding any guns.

Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened, and asked him what to do next.

His son’s reply was: “Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad. It’s the best I could do for you from here.”

Moral of the story : No matter where you are in the world, if you have decided to do something deep from your heart you can do it. It is the thought that matters, not where you are or where the person is.

July 13th, 2007 Vijay 1 comment
  1. link: – Show’s you some/most of the links google counts to your page. Handy to find out who is linking to you, or whose linking to the competition
  2. related: – find sites google deems related to any given site
  3. site: – search the pages of a specific site
  4. allinurl: shows only pages with all terms in the url
  5. inurl: like allinurl, but only for the next query word.
  6. allintitle: shows only results with terms in title.
  7. intitle: kind of like allintitle, but only for the next word. “intitle:webmasterworld google” finds only pages with webmasterworld in the title, and google anywhere on the page.
  8. cache: gives you googles cashed (what google has on record) of a site
  9. info: will give you some info about a given site
  10. spell: – does a spellcheck (you don’t have to do this, google will spellcheck any words searched)
  11. stocks: does a search for stocks
  12. filetype: does a search for a specific file type, or, if you put a – in front of it, it won’t list any results with that filetype
  13. daterange: is supported in Julian date format only. 2452384 is an example of a Julian date.
  14. maps: shortcut to do a google maps search
  15. phone: searches for anything that looks like a phonenumber
  16. allinlinks: searches only within links, not text or title
  17. allintext: searches only within text of pages, but not in the links or page title

For example, if you want to get a pdf file from www.sun.com, you can search as follows.

Java site:www.sun.com filetype:pdf
