Build your own Family Tree

August 27th, 2008 2 comments

Have you ever tried to put all your relatives in a single chart(Family Tree)?

All of a sudden I got a sparkle to build a Family Tree. A family tree of my own. When I searched on the Google, I came across many websites which provide a way to build a Family Tree.

After a short comparison I found that www.tribalpages.com which suit my requirements. You need to register first to build your website.

This website provides an easy way to build a family tree in simple steps.  Once you add the names of your relatives, you would be able to find the relationship of any two individual persons in a tree like structure.

You can also add the names, birth days, anniversaries and other important/miscellaneous notes for each person.

If you don’t want these information to be shared/published to public, you can still restrict the site(Family Tree) you built by providing a password. (When you want to share with your friends and relatives share the password too).

You can also add photos to get a photo tree of your relatives.

The entire service is free of cost provided by www.tribalpages.com. There are few more advanced features for paid users on report generations.

So start building a Family Tree of your own. In a matter of one hour you can build your own Family Tree. It would definitely be a a fun filled/useful time pass.

The image shown below is a sample tree of British Royal Family.

Amazing mimicry show on cricketers

August 23rd, 2008 No comments

Sometime back, I published a post (audio) on Mimicry show on cricketers. That was about 3 mins. Recently I happened to come across the full version of the same show (visual show).

This seems to be a program conducted by Sony Television. You can see all cricket legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin enjoying the show.

I hope you will like it.

False Proof : 1 = -1

August 22nd, 2008 No comments

False Proof is one of the concepts in Mathematics. This is a quite interesting area. One of my Mathematics professor started his first class with the following question.

Can you prove 1 = -1?

We all said nope.

Then he went to the blackboard and wrote the following proof.

Version 1:

False Proof 1 = -1

Amazing. Isn’t? This is called False Proof.

There is one more way to prove 1 = -1.

Version 2 :

False Proof 1 = -1

Now let us see, how is this possible?

Let us take the first proof (False Proof)

The rule  isrootxy generally valid only if at least one of the two numbers x or y is positive, which is not the case here. Alternatively, one can view the square root as a 2-valued function over the complex numbers; in this case both sides of the above equation evaluate to {1, -1}.

How about the second version? Is that true? The answer is false again. Below is the explanation.

The equation a bc = (a b )c, when b and/or c are fractions, is generally valid only when a is positive, which is not the case here, leading to an invalid proof.
