 Skype, the popular chat software, has announced the group video chat feature recently.

Group voice chat is an existing feature of Skype; but the group chat had not allowed us to view the videos. But the latest Skype version introduced this new feature which will allow a group of five friends to chat with each other with video.

This is a still in beta version and it is definitely a tough competition to Cisco video conferencing and other software.

To avail this feature you should download the latest version of Skype software.

Skype – a software that enables you to make free calls anywhere in the world. Skype uses innovative P2P (peer-to-peer) technology to connect you with other users.

A newer and improved version of Skype has been released recently.

Skype 4.0 offers a single-pane interface, puts contacts and conversations in tabs, increases video size, and improves video and audio quality.

Most of us use Skype regularly to keep in touch with our family and friends.

By double clicking any contact in the Skype Contacts list will call that person. It is a nice feature.

But most of the times we double click the contact accidentally which will suddenly make a call. In such cases, it is very annoying. This auto call feature will disturb our friends so often; also calling someone should be in our control.

In order to avoid this, you can change the default settings and disable this feature; instead you can display the chat window on double clicking the contact.

1. Click on the Skype Menu Tools->Options
2. Under the category General, select General Settings
3. Here you will find an option called When I double-click on a Contact or use the address field
4. Select Start a chat option.
5. Save and close the window

Now you can navigate through Skype contacts without any problems.

Video Chat is one of the important facility which was missing in Google. So far we would have used Skype or Yahoo for Video chatting.

Google now introduced Video Chat in GMail. Yes, this facility has been integrated with GMail and not with GTalk application.

You can install the video chat plugin to avail this feature. This plugin works in all major browsers. I have tested this in Firefox.

This will definitely be a threat to Skype. But still most of us will continue in Skype as it has more options than in Google Video Chat.
