Birmingham Balaji Temple

Birmingham Temple

Tamil month Puratasi started on Sep 17. This month is an auspicious month, and all perumal temples have some or the other festivals. Particularly Saturday is so special during these days.

I planned to go to some Perumal Temple here in UK. When I searched in GOOGLE, I came to know about the Balaji Temple in Birmingham. Birmingham is located in the centre of England. From Bristol it takes one and a half an hour of journey. Myself and my colleague Rajesh started by bus at 7:30 AM. We reached the temple by 10 AM.

The location of the temple is so good. It located in the urban part of Birmingham. It is the biggest Hindu temple in Europe. The architecture of the temple makes you remember the typical Tamil Nadu temple. Interior of the temple is fully made on woods. The main sannidhi is Thirupathi Vekateshvara. Some more sannidhis for Lakshmi, Hanuman and Durga. A seperate Navakraham also there. Still some more constructions are going on there.

To know more about the temple, please click here.

As it was a Puratasi Saturday, we could see a good amount of devotees in the temple. A lot of South Indians and North Indians; among north Indians so many are Gujarathis.

As it was a auspicious day, it had a lot of events which includes some special Abhishekam. A variety of Bhajans were sung by the devotees during Abhishekam which includes some Tamil Bhajans. The mangala Aarathi got over by 2:30 PM.

Then we all were given free lunch by the the temple devasthanam. That was a typical Tamil Nadu style lunch. Sarkarai Pongal, Sambar saadham, Thattaam Payaru Kari, Thair saatham, Appalam and Mango Pickle. Awesome luch it was.

Photographs are strictly prohibited inside the temple. So we could not take any snaps inside the temple. But we took some photos in the temple premises.

We started from the temple by 3:30 PM. Then we reached the city. We visited to some of the tourist attractions which includes Victoria Square, City Centre, High Streets and some Memorial buildings.

Then we captured some places in Birmingham and rushed to the coach station to get the bus.
